Overview

Establishes inspection protocols which will be implemented, validated by metrology lab personnel and aligned with other metrology labs of Shure Incorporated. Performs advanced measurement development initiatives supporting corporate directives to meet design requirements. Measurement development initiatives will include but not be limited to: developing corporate measurement technology plans, analysis, determining implications of measurement uncertainty, influencing internal and external projects for new technologies and novel applications to support Shure needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in setting the direction in dimensional metrology.
  • Serve as a supporting core knowledge base for matters regarding geometric dimensioning and tolerance application.
  • Assist with the development and standardization of mechanical inspection and measurement methodologies and operator training.
  • Assess metrology equipment capabilities as well as assist in the procurement and installation of new equipment as needed.
  • Apply advanced concepts and understanding of mathematical definitions of GD&T (e.g., ASME Y14.5.1, GB/T1182, GB/T4249 or equivalents) and their implications to support design intent (of product, tooling, machine).
  • Utilize expertise to support optimum design of fixtures, tooling, machines, sensors, and measurement systems through interaction and working relationships with Design Engineering (product and machine).
  • Develop and maintain expertise standing in the field of dimensional metrology through networking, research, and continuous education.
  • Partner with Suppliers as needed to correlate fixtures, gauges, and other inspection methodologies.
  • Provide support to SZ plant and other Shure locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in precision dimensional measurement.
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience in applying design standards including ASME Y14.5, ISO and other National, International, and Industrial standards like GB/T1182, GB/T4249, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of dimensional metrology and/or an applied technology in that field.
  • Able to interpret, test and establish measurement methods and programs of 1, 2 and 3 dimensional applications using contact and non-contact computer controlled CMM’s
  • Understanding of measurement applications, sampling effects and weighted distribution
